Clifton Cunningham

Clifton Cunningham is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Calgary working in the Langlands Program. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto in 1997 under the supervision of James Arthur. After a postdoc at the University of Massachusetts and a visiting position at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, he moved to the University of Calgary in 2000 and since then has also held visiting positions at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques in 2005, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in 2012 and a status appointment at the University of Toronto 2015--2018. As lead of the Voganish Project, Cunningham's research brings techniques from arithmetic geometry to bear on problems in the Langlands programme. He was Regional Director for the Canadian Mathematical Society from 2007--2011, Site Director for the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences from 2008--2015, and currently an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary. Clifton remains active in mathematical outreach, including his work with Beakerhead in 2013 and 2017.
